Al terminar esta lección podrás:

  • Usar "It is said/believed/reported that..." para reportar información
  • Usar "She is said/thought/known to be..." como alternativa
  • Formar la pasiva con verbos modales: must be done, should be checked
  • Usar la causativa "have/get + objeto + participio"

"It is believed that he is innocent." = "He is believed to be innocent." Ambas son correctas y equivalentes. La segunda es más directa y compacta. Verbos frecuentes: say, believe, think, report, consider, know, claim, allege, expect, understand.

Vocabulario esencial

Estructuras pasivas avanzadas en contexto. Toca para ver ejemplos.

Pasiva con verbos de reporte

It is reported that the company will close.

/ɪt ɪz rɪˈpɔːrtɪd/

Distanciamiento

"It is claimed that...", "It has been confirmed that...", "It was announced that..."

She is known to be highly intelligent.

/ʃiː ɪz nəʊn tuː biː/

Sujeto directo

Se sabe que es muy inteligente. / Es conocida por ser muy inteligente.

Versión alternativa más compacta. "He is thought to have left the country." / "They are believed to be hiding."

He is said to have been there that night.

/hɪ ɪz sed tuː həv bɪn/

Pasado desde pasiva

Se dice que estuvo allí esa noche.

"Is said to have + participio" = el evento del que se habla ocurrió ANTES del reporte. "She is alleged to have stolen the money." / "He is thought to have fled."

Toca para ver

The matter is expected to be resolved soon.

/ɪkˈspektɪd tuː biː/

Expectativa

"Profits are expected to rise." / "The bill is expected to pass."

Pasiva modal y causativa

This report must be submitted by Friday.

/mʌst biː səbˈmɪtɪd/

Pasiva modal

Este informe debe entregarse para el viernes.

Modal + be + participio. "The data should be verified." / "This cannot be ignored." / "The contract might be cancelled." La estructura es siempre: modal + be + past participle.

Toca para ver

I had my car repaired yesterday.

/aɪ həd maɪ kɑːr rɪˈpeərd/

Causativa (have sth done)

"I had my hair cut." / "She had her phone fixed." / "They're having their house painted." Implica que pagaste o encargaste el servicio.

Toca para ver

She got her laptop stolen on the train.

/ʃiː ɡɒt hər ˈlæptɒp ˈstəʊlən/

Causativa negativa (get)

"I got my phone repaired." (positivo — lo conseguí arreglar) / "She got her bag stolen." (negativo)

Toca para ver

The new law should have been passed months ago.

/ʃʊd həv bɪn pɑːst/

Pasiva modal perfecta

La nueva ley debería haberse aprobado hace meses.

Modal + have been + participio = pasiva modal en el pasado. "It should have been done." / "It could have been avoided." / "It must have been stolen." Muy frecuente en argumentación y crítica.

Diálogo real

Have something done — causativa sin agente:
"I cut my hair." → yo mismo lo hice
"I had my hair cut." → alguien lo hizo por mí (peluquero)
"I got my hair cut."
Si quieres mencionar quién: "I had the mechanic check my car."

Noticias del día

Presenter

The CEO is alleged to have known about the fraud for months before it was reported.
