Condicional tipo 2

"If I had more time, I would travel the world." / "If I were you, I wouldn't do that." — El segundo condicional habla de situaciones imaginarias o improbables en el presente o futuro.

La fórmula del tipo 2

IF + pasado simple → WOULD + infinitivo. Atención: el pasado en "if" NO es pasado real, es pasado hipotético. "If I had a million euros" no significa que lo tuve — significa que no lo tengo. El clásico: "If I were you..." — siempre WERE (no was) en inglés formal.

"If I had more money, I would buy a house." — No tengo ese dinero ahora. Situación imaginaria presente.

Si yo fuera tú...

"If I were you, I would apologise immediately." — La forma más natural de dar consejo en inglés. Siempre WERE (no was) con todos los sujetos en inglés formal.

¿Qué harías si...?

"What would you do if you lost your job?" — ¿Qué harías si perdieras tu trabajo? Pregunta hipotética muy común en entrevistas y conversaciones.

Consecuencia

Viajaría por el mundo

La consecuencia siempre usa WOULD (o COULD / MIGHT para menos certeza). "I would" → seguro. "I might" → posible. "I could" → capacidad hipotética.

If it rains, I'll stay home (Tipo 1)

Posible / Real

Si llueve (y puede que llueva), me quedaré en casa

Tipo 1: situación posible/probable. Uso will/won't. El hablante cree que puede pasar.

Imaginario / Improbable

Si lloviera (pero probablemente no lloverá), me quedaría

Tipo 2: situación imaginaria o improbable. Uso would. El hablante cree que es poco probable o imposible.

"If I could fly, I would visit every country in one day!" — Situación completamente imposible. El tipo 2 permite expresar sueños y fantasías.

Yo no haría eso si fuera tú

Versión negativa del consejo. Más suave que "don't do that" — expresa la consecuencia hipotética de la acción.

"Were" vs. "was" en el tipo 2:
Inglés formal/estándar: IF I/HE/SHE/IT WERE → "If she were here..." / "If I were rich..."
Inglés informal hablado: "If I was rich..." (aceptable en conversación cotidiana)
En exámenes y escritura formal → siempre WERE.

Lo sé. Si no necesitara este trabajo, dimitiría mañana. Pero la economía no está muy bien ahora.

Estructura: If + sujeto + pasado simple... sujeto + would + infinitivo.
